Founded in 1446, Gävle is officially Norrland’s oldest town, but not much of its original incarnation remains due to a devastating fire in 1869. Gävle, at the southern end of the province Gästrikland is the seat of the government of Gävleborg County. It is situated on the E4 road and on the railway to north Sweden, about two hours drive north of Stockholm.
